The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified its crackdown on cross-border crimes in Tripura, resulting in the seizure of narcotics and contraband worth more than Rs 1 crore and the apprehension of a Bangladeshi national in separate operations across the state.

According to BSF officials, around 1 PM on Wednesday, a Bangladeshi national was apprehended at Ambassa Railway Station in Dhalai district.

The individual, identified as a resident of Rajshahi district in Bangladesh, was detained for illegal infiltration.

“Further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind his presence in India,” a BSF spokesperson stated.

In another operation based on specific intelligence, BSF personnel from the Kamalasagar Border Outpost (BOP) in Sepahijala district intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Omni vehicle in the hinterland.

A search of the vehicle revealed a consignment of 7,200 mobile displays, estimated to be worth approximately ₹1.09 crore.

The items are believed to have been smuggled for illegal trade across the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The BSF also reported two major narcotics recoveries in joint operations with local police. On June 17, troops from BOP Raghu in West Tripura, along with officers from the Airport Police Station, conducted a house search in Narayanpur village. The operation resulted in the recovery of 11 kg of ganja and the arrest of the house owner.

In a similar raid, BSF troops from BOP Kalamchera and Kalamchera Police Station searched a house in Babamura village, Sepahijala district, leading to the seizure of a massive 58.5 kg of ganja. The house owner was taken into custody.

A BSF spokesperson emphasized that the force has ramped up operations both along the international border and in the interior areas of the state to curb infiltration, exfiltration, and smuggling activities. “These seizures and arrests reflect the strong coordination between the BSF and local police, ensuring enhanced national security and public safety,” the spokesperson said.
