Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan, during his two-day official visit to Tripura, reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development, asserting that border villages are not the last but the first to receive full access to basic amenities including clean drinking water, roads, electricity, and other essential services.
Dr. Murugan began his tour on Thursday with a visit to the revered Tripureshwari Temple in Udaipur, where he offered prayers before proceeding to Belonia, the district headquarters of South Tripura.
Upon arrival, he was welcomed by District Magistrate Mohammed Sajjad P. and Superintendent of Police Maurya Krishna Chandra.
He then chaired a review meeting with district-level officials to assess the implementation and progress of various central government schemes in South Tripura.
Key schemes reviewed included the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), and the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), among others.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Murugan emphasized the government’s commitment to bridging development gaps in the Northeast, particularly in border regions. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of development in South Tripura, noting that the district has outperformed the state average in several indicators. He also congratulated officials for their dedicated efforts.
Highlighting grassroots entrepreneurship, the Minister lauded the success of over 28,000 'Lakhpati Didis'—women who have achieved financial self-reliance through government initiatives—calling it a stellar example of women-led development.
As part of his Information and Broadcasting portfolio, Dr. Murugan visited the Akashwani Belonia station, where he interacted with listeners live on air.
He also inspected the Muhurighat Land Customs Station and a border check post in Belonia to review border management infrastructure and facilities supporting cross-border trade.
On Friday, the Minister will participate in the Tiranga Yatra in Belonia. He is also scheduled to visit the Sudhir Sarkar Para Anganwadi Centre under West Jolaibari Gram Panchayat, engage with members of the Manubazar Cluster Level Federation (CLF), and interact with the Sabuj Sathi Goatery Producer Group at Sukanta Palli Gram Panchayat.
