Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) for the first time, calling it a “historic milestone.”
The announcement came during a programme held at the party’s TTAADC headquarters in Khumulwng, where BJP officially released its Sankalp Patra outlining 29 key promises ahead of the upcoming ADC elections.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Saha said the party’s vision document focuses heavily on accelerating development in tribal regions that have long faced neglect. He highlighted that both the central and state governments are working in tandem to channel significant resources into these areas.
According to him, infrastructure development remains a major priority, alongside expanding access to essential services. He pointed out that initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission have ensured the availability of tap water in many tribal regions.
The Chief Minister also underscored the importance given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the rehabilitation of Bru communities. He noted that electricity and drinking water facilities have already been provided in resettlement areas, including remote locations such as Jampui Hills through innovative solutions. These efforts, he added, were recently mentioned in the Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Baat address.
Dr. Saha stressed that the commitments made in the Sankalp Patra are grounded in practical realities and aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities.
Reiterating the party’s stance on peace, he said BJP does not support violence and condemned recent incidents that occurred after the election announcement. He added that while the party is contesting 28 seats, it remains committed to maintaining harmony, in line with the vision of its central leadership.
Expressing optimism, the Chief Minister said the indigenous communities would support BJP’s development agenda and recognize the intent behind the promises.
“The people will understand that our commitments are for their overall welfare. Our leadership has consistently delivered on its promises,” he said.
The event was attended by several senior leaders, including state BJP president and MP Rajib Bhattacharya, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, and former MP Rebati Tripura.
