Security forces carried out two back-to-back operations at Agartala Railway Station on Tuesday evening, leading to the arrest of a Bangladeshi national for illegal entry and another local youth for attempting to smuggle ganja to Assam.
Officer-in-Charge of Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), Tapas Das, informed that the first operation led to the arrest of Biplab Das, a Bangladeshi national from Sunamganj district.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Agartala GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and the Intelligence Division apprehended Das from the railway station premises.
“Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused had crossed into India illegally and was preparing to board a train to Delhi. We suspect a wider network may be involved, and further arrests cannot be ruled out,” said the officer.
In a separate operation later that evening, GRP and RPF personnel arrested Bishal Natya Das (23), a resident of Surendra Nagar in Gomati district. He was allegedly found carrying 2.055 kg of dry ganja hidden in a backpack.
During questioning, Bishal confessed that the contraband was intended for the Assam market, where it could reportedly fetch up to Rs 25,000.
Both individuals are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
