Tripura BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma on Tuesday strongly criticized the Tipra Motha Party, alleging that recent attacks on BJP workers were driven by fear ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
He made these remarks while visiting GB Hospital in Agartala, where he met a BJP worker who was reportedly assaulted in Khowai district.
According to Debbarma, the incident occurred shortly after the conclusion of the TTAADC elections held on April 12, when BJP workers in the Asharambari Assembly constituency were allegedly attacked in what he described as an attempt to seriously harm them. He also claimed that the victim’s mother was not spared during the attack.
He questioned the idea of “Thansa” promoted by Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, alleging contradictions between the party’s message of unity and the reported violence on the ground. He further accused the party of internal conflict among tribal groups and claimed that such incidents reflect desperation over expected electoral defeat.
Debbarma also alleged that similar violence and voter intimidation had taken place during the election period, adding that the situation had been widely witnessed. He warned that legal action would be taken and stated that an FIR would be filed in connection with the incident.
