In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized approximately 195 kilograms of marijuana from the Taranagar area of Agartala in the early hours of June 12.

The contraband, valued at around ₹30 lakh in the local market, was recovered during a swift and targeted operation aimed at curbing narcotics smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Officials said the seizure is part of Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to dismantle smuggling networks active in the Northeast and protect youth from the growing menace of drug abuse.

A senior Assam Rifles officer said, “This operation reaffirms our commitment to national security and our relentless stand against narcotics trafficking in the region.”

Assam Rifles has significantly intensified anti-smuggling activities in recent months, maintaining heightened vigilance in border areas to disrupt illicit networks and safeguard communities vulnerable to drug-related crimes.
