A delegation from the Agartala Press Club met Director General of Police Anurag on Friday, raising concerns about the safety of journalists and the growing misuse of press identification stickers.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Press Club President Pranab Sarkar said the managing committee discussed several pressing issues with the DGP. Among the key concerns was the safety of journalists working across both hilly and plain regions of the state.

Sarkar noted that incidents of attacks on journalists have been reported from different areas. The delegation urged the police to take strict action against those responsible and ensure prompt arrests in such cases.

Another major issue highlighted was the misuse of press stickers by unauthorized individuals. The Press Club requested the police to take firm steps to curb this practice. Additionally, they proposed the introduction of standardized, all-weather press jackets to help identify genuine journalists, especially those working late hours, including photojournalists.

The delegation also called for increased police patrolling in Agartala city as well as in sub-divisional towns to enhance security during nighttime assignments.

Concerns were also raised about the spread of misinformation on social media, particularly by individuals posing as content creators. The Press Club urged the authorities to take measures to control such activities.

Sarkar added that all issues discussed during the Press Club’s managing committee meeting and annual general meeting were presented to the police leadership. The DGP assured the delegation that appropriate action would be taken.

The delegation included Vice President Chitra Roy and Joint Secretaries Kamal Chowdhury and Abhishek Dey.
