Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the royal scion of Tripura and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, has lodged an FIR against a man for the brutal killing of a dog, a disturbing act that was captured on video and circulated on social media.
The complaint, filed at the West Agartala Police Station on Friday, names Bador Jamatia as the accused. According to the FIR, the incident occurred on March 11 at Wak Shimalung Para in Teliamura, Khowai district, where Jamatia was seen repeatedly beating the dog to death in an act of extreme cruelty. The gruesome footage was allegedly uploaded by one Buchuk Jamatia, a resident of the same area.
Citing Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, Pradyot Manikya urged authorities to take swift legal action. He assured his full cooperation in the investigation and requested immediate acknowledgment of his complaint.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with netizens and animal rights activists demanding stringent action against the perpetrator. The disturbing footage has drawn condemnation from various quarters, including Tripura's Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD) Minister Sudhangshu Das, who has instructed the police to arrest the accused without delay.
As public anger mounts over the heinous act, authorities are under pressure to ensure justice is served at the earliest.
