Tripura’s unemployment rate drops below national average: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today said that the unemployment rate in the state is much lower than the national average.

“According to a survey, the unemployment rate in our state in 2018-19 was much higher than the national average. While the national average in 2018-19 was 5.8%, the state average was 10%. And in the financial year 2023-24, the state average is 1.7% and the national average is 3.2%,” he added.

He said that 17,554 individuals have received government jobs till March 2025, with 3,554 appointed this year alone.

Dr. Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, was speaking at an appointment letter distribution ceremony held at Nazrul Kalakshetra Auditorium in Agartala.

A total of 228 appointment letters were handed over to newly recruited teachers under the Education Department, including 66 Under Graduate Teachers (UGTs) and 162 Graduate Teachers (GTs).

“The process of issuing appointment letters has been ongoing for several months, and more offers will follow soon,” said the Chief Minister. “Today’s appointments have been made in strict adherence to the government’s transparent recruitment policy. We are committed to ensuring that no one is deprived of their rightful opportunity.”

He congratulated the new appointees and wished them success in their careers.

Dr. Saha also informed that the TET-II exam was conducted on April 27 and TET-I is scheduled for May 4.

He emphasized that one of the primary goals of his administration is to expedite government processes through transparency and accountability.

He further highlighted that alongside new job creation, efforts are underway to fill existing vacancies across departments. The government has also facilitated recruitment through outsourcing to prevent administrative delays.

"The employment atmosphere in the state has improved significantly,” he added. “Over 2,900 individuals have secured jobs in security and allied services through various agencies, and more than 1,600 jobs have been created in the state’s industrial sector over the past three years through the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation.”
