Tripura to conduct statewide Civil Defence Mock drill tomorrow: Revenue Secretary

The Government of Tripura will carry out a Civil Defence Mock Drill across all eight districts on May 7 at 3:30 PM, as announced by Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey during a press conference on Tuesday.

Pandey clarified that the exercise is being conducted in compliance with the Ministry of Home Affairs' directive under the Civil Defence Act, 1968.

He emphasized that the main objective is to assess the state’s preparedness and the coordination among agencies in responding to both hostile attacks and natural or man-made disasters.

“The mock drill will evaluate the efficiency of civil defence mechanisms, including alert systems, evacuation procedures, emergency rescue efforts, and the restoration of vital services,” said Pandey.

The District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and the District Civil Defence Corps will coordinate the event in collaboration with various emergency and disaster response agencies.

Pandey also noted the crucial role of Civil Defence Volunteers, who are stationed across the state and will actively participate in the drill.

“These volunteers are the first responders in any crisis situation and will play an essential part in tomorrow’s mock drill,” he added.

The exercise will include several components such as air raid warnings, search and rescue operations, fire-fighting activities, first aid responses, and medical assistance.

West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, also present at the briefing, shared that in Agartala, the drill will take place at Umakanta School. Participants will include the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Tripura State Rifles (TSR), Home Guards, Apada Mitra volunteers, medical teams, and the Tripura Fire and Emergency Services.

“The drill will run from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, with sirens sounding at 4:00 PM and again at 5:30 PM to signal different phases of the exercise,” Dr. Kumar added.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate, as the drill is vital for enhancing the state’s emergency response systems.
