The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday morning recovered eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines from two unclaimed bags at Agartala Railway Station.
The bags were found inside the general coach of Train No. 14620, which had arrived from Firozpur.
Assistant Commandant of the RPF, BK Sinha, said that two RPF personnel on routine duty at the station noticed the unattended luggage and alerted both the RPF control room and GRP.
“We reached the spot promptly and conducted a thorough check of the bags. Inside, we discovered eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines. No live ammunition was recovered,” Sinha stated.
Director General (Intelligence), Anurag Dhankar, visited the scene shortly after the recovery to assess the situation firsthand.
GRP Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das said the train arrived around 4:30 AM, and the suspicious bags were found around 8:00 AM. In addition to the weapons, the bags also contained clothes, medicines, and other personal belongings.
“A case has been registered against unidentified individuals, and a detailed investigation is underway,” Das added.
In response to the recovery, security has been stepped up at the railway station and surrounding areas. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage and checking passenger records to trace the origin of the bags and identify the culprits.
