In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday convened a high-level meeting with top security officials to assess the state’s law and order situation and review border security along the India-Bangladesh frontier.
The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s official residence, was attended by Director General (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankhar and senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Assam Rifles, Indian Army, and the SIB.
The closed-door discussion lasted over an hour. However, no official statement was released regarding the deliberations or decisions taken.
Sources indicated that the security agencies presented separate reports on their preparedness in the event of any adverse fallout from the India-Pakistan hostilities.
The meeting also reportedly addressed concerns over distorted narratives emerging from certain Bangladeshi media outlets related to the ongoing tensions.
Instructions were issued to bolster security along the Tripura-Bangladesh border and to intensify intelligence operations across the state.
“The Chief Minister raised concerns about the persistent infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into Tripura despite the presence of multilayered security and border fencing,” a senior official said. “He also flagged the activities of fundamentalist groups operating in Bangladesh and their potential anti-India agenda.”
DGP Dhankhar informed the meeting that security deployments and intelligence surveillance have been significantly ramped up at key locations across the state in response to the volatile situation on the western border.
Security at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala has also been reinforced, both inside and around the facility.
In an additional preventive measure, the Tripura Police have introduced a new mandate for property owners across the state.
Residents have been asked to notify local police stations in advance if they intend to rent out their houses or properties. Authorities suspect that foreign nationals may attempt to enter the state and conceal their identities for nefarious purposes.
