Three Tripura Police personnel face suspension over bribery allegations

In a decisive move to uphold integrity within the force, Tripura’s Sepahijala District Superintendent of Police, Bijoy Debbarma, has taken strict action against three police personnel accused of corruption.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), a Constable, and a Special Police Officer (SPO) have been suspended or closed from duty after an internal probe confirmed allegations of misconduct.

Sources revealed that the three officers—ASI Vivekananda Debbarma, Constable Badura Debbarma, and SPO Partha Das—allegedly took a bribe from a commuter while conducting a nighttime vehicle check in the Bishramganj area. Following reports of their misconduct, an inquiry was launched, which exposed gross negligence in their duties.

Confirming the development, SP Bijoy Debbarma stated, “The investigation found serious violations of protocol. ASI Vivekananda Debbarma, being a senior officer, failed to exercise control over the situation, leading to this action. The department has taken a firm stance, and disciplinary proceedings will follow."
