Outrage in Tripura over puppy killing video, Minister orders immediate arrest

A gruesome act of animal cruelty in Tripura’s Khowai district has sent shockwaves across the state, sparking widespread outrage after a disturbing video surfaced on social media.

The footage shows a youth brutally killing a defenseless puppy, igniting a storm of anger among netizens and animal rights activists.

Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, Tripura's Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD) Minister, Sudhangshu Das, has ordered the state police to ensure the immediate arrest of the accused.

Following the video’s circulation, two prominent animal rescue organizations—Pawsome and K-Nine—lodged general diary (GD) entries at separate police stations, urging swift legal action. Their intervention has amplified calls for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws.

Expressing his anguish on Facebook, Minister Das stated,  "A deeply disturbing video has surfaced on social media, exposing a heartless act of animal cruelty. An innocent puppy was brutally killed in the most inhumane manner by a boy from Teliamura, under Khowai district. This is not just an instance of animal abuse—it is sheer brutality. No living being deserves such treatment.”

Reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on animal cruelty, he added,

“I strongly condemn this incident and have directed Tripura Police to take immediate action to ensure the culprit is brought to justice without delay”.

The shocking incident has triggered a wave of protests both online and offline. Citizens, activists, and organizations are demanding harsher penalties against perpetrators of such crimes to deter future cruelty. Many have urged authorities to strengthen enforcement of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, ensuring that offenders face strict legal consequences.
