Tripura Tribal Welfare Department is intensifying efforts to improve infrastructure, hygiene, educational quality, and the overall living environment of Scheduled Tribe (ST) hostels across Tripura, said Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma at a high-level review meeting held at Pragya Bhavan today.
Presiding over the meeting, Minister Debbarma emphasized that ensuring the safety and a conducive atmosphere for students residing in hostels is a key priority for the state government.
“Hostel in-charges must work more conscientiously and responsibly. The department is working relentlessly to provide students with the best possible facilities,” he said.
He also directed welfare officers at the subdivision and district levels to conduct regular inspections of hostels to monitor service delivery and maintain standards.
“All stakeholders must stay vigilant to ensure that hostel students receive the care and environment they deserve,” the Minister added.
Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department, Brijesh Pandey, also addressed the gathering and reiterated the department’s commitment to uplift hostel conditions.
Director of the department, Subhashis Das, highlighted that mental well-being of hostel students is being prioritized alongside their physical well-being. Discussions during the review meeting included implementation of a biometric attendance system, introduction of smart classes, development of e-libraries, and initiatives like ‘Clean Hostel’ and ‘Green Hostel’. Provisions for free textbooks and scholarship disbursement were also reviewed.
The department aims to roll out these measures in a phased manner to create holistic, student-friendly environments across all ST hostels in the state.
