Doctors of GB Pant donate blood to save life during emergency surgery in Tripura

Two doctors from Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital have set an inspiring example of selfless service by donating blood to save a patient’s life during an emergency surgery. 

Their swift and humanitarian action highlights the growing positive mentality among medical professionals in Tripura and the ongoing revolution in the state’s healthcare services.

Sources from Tripura health department said that the incident unfolded on March 17 when a patient from Shantirbazar, suffering from cancer, was admitted to the hospital. After thorough diagnosis, the doctors discovered that she was suffering from a choledochal cyst with a neoplasm of the pancreas. In a bid to save her life, the doctors decided to perform an urgent surgery.

However, during the surgery, the medical team faced a critical situation— the patient's hemoglobin level was dangerously low, requiring an immediate blood transfusion. At that moment, the woman’s family members were not present in the hospital to provide blood, and the patient’s blood group was A positive.

In this life-or-death situation, two compassionate doctors, both of whom shared the same A positive blood group, stepped forward without hesitation. Dr. Antara Roy Bhowmik and Dr. A. Kiran, both from Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, voluntarily donated blood to ensure the patient had enough to complete the surgery. 

The blood transfusion, made possible by the doctors' kindness, ensured that the patient received the vital support needed for a successful surgery. The procedure, which took place on April 30, was completed successfully, thanks to the life-saving blood donation.

This exemplary gesture of humanity from Dr. Antara Roy Bhowmik and Dr. A. Kiran has been widely praised by the medical community and citizens alike. 

The Health Department of Tripura has acknowledged and celebrated the outstanding contribution of these doctors, highlighting their actions as a symbol of the growing sense of responsibility and humanity in the medical profession.
