Campaigning for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections will conclude this evening, as authorities finalize extensive security arrangements ahead of voting.
Polling is scheduled to take place on April 12 across 28 constituencies, while counting of votes and declaration of results will be held on April 17.
This year’s elections are set to witness a four-cornered contest, with major political parties such as the BJP, CPI(M), Congress, and Tipra Motha fielding candidates in all seats. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is also in the fray, intensifying the competition.
In the lead-up to polling, all parties have conducted vigorous campaigns across the state, including mass rallies, bike rallies, door-to-door outreach, and street-corner meetings to connect with voters.
Tripura Director General of Police, Anurag, stated that elaborate security measures have been put in place to ensure peaceful polling. Personnel from the Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles will be deployed at all polling stations, which have been categorized based on their vulnerability to ensure appropriate security coverage.
He further noted that although the state initially faced a shortage of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), the Central Government has now sanctioned 24 companies. Of these, 12 companies are from the Border Security Force (BSF), 10 from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and 2 from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
“So far, four companies have already arrived, and the remaining 20 are expected shortly. These forces will be deployed across all 28 constituencies to prevent any untoward incidents,” the DGP said.
With heightened security measures in place and active participation from multiple political parties, the stage is set for a closely contested election. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful polling throughout the TTAADC region.
