Voting for the 28 seats of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council commenced at 7:00 AM on Sunday amid stringent security arrangements, with officials reporting an early voter turnout of approximately 22% by 9:00 AM.
The elections have drawn significant political attention, with a total of 173 candidates in the fray. Major political parties participating in the polls include the Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, Tipra Motha, and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura.
According to election officials, a total of 9,62,547 registered voters are eligible to cast their votes across 1,257 polling stations spread throughout the council areas.
To ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process, extensive security measures have been put in place. Authorities have conducted area domination exercises and flag marches in sensitive regions ahead of polling. Additionally, 24 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed across the state, with personnel already stationed at key locations.
Polling is progressing under close monitoring, and officials remain optimistic about a steady voter turnout throughout the day.
