In a major success in the fight against narcotics, Tripura Police on Friday seized 450 kilograms of cannabis and arrested two alleged smugglers in Ambassa, under Dhalai District.
Acting on a tip-off from a confidential source, a team led by Officer-in-Charge of Ambassa Police Station, Nandan Das, launched a special operation and intercepted a suspicious vehicle (registration number TR 03 Q 0373) entering the Ambassa area from Ganganagar.
Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 450 kg of cannabis concealed inside. Two individuals—Prasenjit Majumder and Raju Deb, both residents of Bishramganj in Sepahijala District—were apprehended on the spot.
Speaking to the media, OC Nandan Das confirmed the seizure and said the operation was based on precise intelligence inputs. “This is a significant breakthrough in our ongoing anti-narcotics drive. The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is around Rs 45 lakh,” he stated.
The accused are currently being interrogated at Ambassa Police Station, and a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
