The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura observed the death anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at the state party headquarters on Monday.
The event began with floral tributes to the portrait of Mukherjee, who is widely regarded as the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh — the ideological predecessor of the BJP.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, addressing party workers, paid glowing tribute to Mukherjee’s contributions to the nation.
He said, "Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was not only a visionary leader but also the first to sacrifice his life in independent India for the integrity of the country. If he were alive today, no one can imagine how far India would have advanced under his leadership."
Quoting Mukherjee’s principles, the Chief Minister noted, “He used to say — protest against injustice, resist if necessary, and if that too fails, take revenge.
His words continue to inspire the government and guide its policies even today.”
Dr. Saha emphasized that Mukherjee believed politics should serve a higher purpose — the holistic development of the nation for future generations.
“His vision teaches us that politics alone is not enough; we must build a nation where the next generation can thrive,” he added.
The Chief Minister called upon party workers to imbibe Mukherjee’s ideals and work with greater enthusiasm and dedication.
State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya, senior leaders, and a large number of party workers were present at the event.
