Tripura BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya on Tuesday strongly criticized the former UPA-led Congress government for neglecting the Northeast region since independence.
He claimed that a wave of development began in the region only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office.
"The Congress government neglected the Northeast since independence, depriving it in all aspects — from communication to economic development. But under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the region has witnessed unprecedented progress. No Prime Minister from any political party, except Narendra Modi, has paid such consistent attention to the Northeast. His government has made tireless efforts to bring development here," Bhattacharya said at a press conference.
Highlighting the state's achievements, he noted that Tripura has recently earned the distinction of being the third fully literate state in the country.
"Today, in fields like basic mathematics, banking, and digital literacy, India is moving steadily toward effective literacy on par with global standards — all thanks to Prime Minister Modi's vision of building a Viksit Bharat and Viksit Tripura," he added.
Bhattacharya also expressed gratitude to the volunteers, teachers, and students who contributed to the success of the Ullas–Nav Bharat Literacy Program, which aims to educate citizens aged 15 and above.
"Their selfless service, without any expectation of remuneration or personal gain, has made this campaign a grand success. They are our true literacy warriors. I also extend my heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha for their visionary leadership," he said.
