Odisha Vigilance raids suspended IAS Officer Dhiman Chakma’s home in Tripura

Odisha Vigilance teams have launched simultaneous searches at multiple locations linked to suspended IAS officer Dhiman Chakma, including his residence in Kanchanpur, North Tripura, and the home of his in-laws in Himachal Pradesh.

The searches come in the wake of Chakma’s arrest on June 9 by Odisha's anti-corruption wing for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a businessman in Dharmagarh, Kalahandi district.

Chakma, a 2021-batch Odisha cadre IAS officer, was serving as the sub-collector of Dharmagarh when he was caught red-handed.

During a raid following his arrest, officials seized ₹47 lakh in cash from his official residence in Dharmagarh.

The Odisha Vigilance Department confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged corruption.

"The teams are carrying out verification and searches at Chakma’s residence in Kanchanpur, North Tripura, and at his in-laws’ house in Himachal Pradesh, based on search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna," the department said in a statement.

Officials also revealed that documents related to bank accounts, financial investments, and other assets are under scrutiny. Investigators are examining both movable and immovable properties to determine if there are disproportionate assets (DA) involved.

Chakma has been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Three dedicated teams from Odisha Vigilance have been deployed to Tripura and Himachal Pradesh as part of the extended investigation.

This high-profile case has intensified the spotlight on corruption within the bureaucracy, as authorities push for greater accountability in public service.
