GRP, BSF, Tripura Police detained human trafficker from bordering village

In a significant breakthrough in an ongoing human trafficking investigation, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), in collaboration with the 49 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police or Kalamchhara Police Station, apprehended a suspected human trafficker in the early hours of Friday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Sharif Mia (42).

He is a resident of the area adjacent to Dudhpukur Mosque under Kalamchhara Police Station in Sepahijala District, Tripura.

Speaking on the arrest, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP, Tapas Das, said that the accused was taken into custody based on credible intelligence and coordinated efforts among the security forces. A special investigation team is currently interrogating Sharif Mia, and initial findings suggest that more individuals from the region could be linked to the case and may face arrest soon.

Authorities have confirmed that the accused will be produced before the court today to seek police remand for further interrogation.
