Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today praised the remarkable success of Papan Sutradhar, a visually impaired candidate who topped the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2 examination in Tripura this year by scoring 121 out of 150 marks the highest in the state.
Minister Nath today met Papan and his parents to personally congratulate them at his house in Bijaynagar under the Mohanpur Assembly Constituency.
Later, Minister Nath said, “This year’s TET results have shown improvement compared to previous years. Around 6% candidates passed TET 1 and nearly 5% cleared TET 2. Slowly but steadily, the education system in our state is witnessing positive change. Students are also beginning to understand the importance of quality education.”
Sharing Papan’s inspiring journey, Minister Nath said that Papan had enrolled in the Blind School at Narsingarh back in 2008.
Papan also reminded Minister Nath that he had helped him in 2008 with admission to the blind school in Narsingarh, when Minister Nath was serving as an MLA.
“From there, his journey began. Today, despite being blind, he has scored an impressive 88% and emerged as the state topper in TET 2. The cut off mark for ST, SC and Divyanganjan is 83%. His achievement is a testament to his unbreakable willpower and dedication”, said Minister.
Papan, a resident of Bijaynagar under the Mohanpur Assembly Constituency, appeared for the exam alongside 32,286 candidates. He has done MA in History from IGNOU and took admission for M.Ed.
Minister Nath also facilitated a phone call with the Chairperson of the Teachers' Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), Dr. Pratyush Ranjan Deb.
“Dr. Deb congratulated him and assured all necessary support for his future,” Nath added.
“We proudly call them Divyangjan, and Papan is a shining example of what sheer determination and perseverance can achieve,” the Minister said.
