Senior Congress leader and Tripura MLA Sudip Roy Barman has urged Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) to remove the upper age limit for recruitment of Assistant Professors in General and Professional Degree Colleges, aligning the process with University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.
In his letter, Roy Barman pointed out that the current TPSC recruitment process sets the maximum age for applicants at 40 years, which directly contradicts UGC guidelines that do not prescribe any upper age limit for such appointments.
Citing TPSC advertisement numbers 05/2025 (dated January 30, 2025) and 15/2025 (dated May 7, 2025), he highlighted that many NET/SET/PhD-qualified candidates and experienced guest lecturers are being unfairly excluded due to the age restriction.
He further noted that several other Indian states follow UGC guidelines without imposing an age cap, and even Tripura University, a central institution, adheres to this practice.
“In view of this, I request you to revise the age criteria for Assistant Professor recruitment under TPSC and bring it in line with UGC norms,” Roy Barman stated.
