Tripura’s Leader of Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, has accused both the state and central governments of neglecting the growing unemployment problem and ignoring the concerns of jobless youth and other democratic stakeholders.

Speaking at a mass sit-in protest organized near the Circuit House area in Agartala by the Tribal Youth Federation (TYF) Central Committee, Chaudhury said the government has failed to resolve long-standing recruitment delays and has not fulfilled its assurances regarding job creation.

The demonstration was held to highlight a seven-point charter of demands, which includes filling up vacant government posts, investigating alleged irregularities in recruitment within the Autonomous District Council (ADC) administration, and strengthening measures for linguistic and educational development in tribal areas.

Chaudhury claimed that official records and internal assessments indicate that around 50,000 to 60,000 government posts remain unfilled across various departments in Tripura, and urged the authorities to initiate immediate recruitment processes.

Participants in the protest also expressed concern over the status of the Kokborok language, demanding its inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. They further called for greater promotion of Kokborok in educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities across the state.
