Social Education and Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy on Sunday visited Golodharpur Gram Panchayat under Gournagar block in Chandipur Assembly constituency to assess the ongoing embankment, road and drinking water problems in the area.

Unakoti District Magistrate Megha Jain, IAS, Gournagar BDO Onkar Deb and officials from various departments accompanied the minister during the inspection.

Roy reviewed the ongoing construction of the Laxmichhara embankment and the adjoining road. Officials informed him that the embankment work is close to completion. The minister directed the concerned authorities to finish the remaining earth-filling work within the next five to six days.

He said that once the embankment is completed, brick soling, metalling and carpeting of the road would be taken up. The entire project has been targeted for completion before Durga Puja.

The minister also took stock of the drinking water crisis faced by local residents. People told him that although a deep tube well is operational, regular access to drinking water has been disrupted due to a land-related dispute.

To address the issue permanently, the administration has decided to lay a new pipeline and restore regular water supply. Officials said the pipeline work would be completed within the next few days, following which the water supply would be made operational.

Roy instructed the officials to take prompt and effective measures to resolve the problems related to the embankment, road connectivity and drinking water.

Local residents welcomed the administration's intervention and expressed hope that the ongoing initiatives would provide lasting relief from their long-standing problems.
