A businessman was allegedly assaulted, shot at and robbed by a group of miscreants while returning home after closing his shop near Aravinda Sangha in the Kashipur area on Tuesday night. The victim, identified as Anup Kumar Singh, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at GBP Hospital.
According to the victim’s family, Singh was returning home after finishing his shop-related work when several miscreants allegedly intercepted him near Kashipur Aravinda Sangha. They reportedly assaulted him severely before allegedly firing at him with a firearm fitted with a silencer.
The family claimed that the bullet narrowly missed Singh’s head. He collapsed on the road following the assault and firing, after which the accused allegedly fled with his gold chain weighing around 2.5 bhori and Rs 51,000 in cash.
On receiving information about the incident, Singh’s son reached the spot and rescued his injured father before taking him to GBP Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
A written complaint was lodged by Singh’s family at Bodhjungnagar Police Station on Wednesday. The complaint reportedly names Jhuton Ghosh and Birendra Majumdar as alleged accused.
The family has demanded that all those involved in the incident be identified and that strict legal action be taken against them. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
