The Tripura government has increased the prize money for the annual Sharad Samman awards and ‘Mayer Gomon’, raising cash incentives for outstanding Durga Puja organisers across the state.
Under the revised structure, the first prize for Sharad Samman has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000, while the second prize has been raised from Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 and the third prize from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000.
In West Tripura district, awards are presented in five categories: best idol, best theme, best eco-friendly initiative, best pandal decoration and best large-budget puja. The top three performers in each category are recognised.
In the remaining seven districts, awards are given to first-place winners in four categories — best idol, best theme, best eco-friendly initiative and best pandal decoration. The prize money for each first-place winner in these categories has also been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000.
The government has also enhanced the cash awards for ‘Mayer Gomon’, the event associated with the ceremonial departure of Goddess Durga at the conclusion of the Durga Puja festivities.
Under the revised arrangement, the first prize has been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 55,000, the second prize from Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 and the third prize from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000.
The increase in prize money is expected to encourage puja organisers to focus further on artistic excellence, innovative themes, environmental responsibility and attractive pandal decorations, while adding greater recognition to the cultural celebrations associated with Durga Puja in Tripura.
