Tipra Motha Party has yet to decide whether to contest the upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in Tripura, with its leadership currently prioritising discussions on the fulfilment of commitments made by the Central government and the implementation of the party’s demands.
Senior Tipra Motha leader and Minister of State Brishketu Debbarma said the party’s top leadership was holding discussions on the pending assurances, future political strategies and the need to train elected representatives.
According to Debbarma, the meeting is also examining ways to ensure that the rights and entitlements sought by the party are implemented. He said the leadership was discussing the timeline for fulfilling the commitments made by the Centre, along with the steps the party should take in the coming days.
The upcoming local body elections also figured in the discussions, but the party has not reached a final decision on its participation.
Debbarma said the leadership would take a call after detailed deliberations, adding that the election schedule had not yet been announced.
“We cannot take a final decision at this stage because the elections have not been declared. Once the elections are announced, we will inform you about our decision,” he told reporters.
The party’s position on the local body polls is therefore likely to become clearer after further discussions among its senior leaders. For now, Tipra Motha is weighing its organisational priorities alongside the status of the commitments made by the Central government.
