An unidentified youth was killed after being run over by the Agartala–Silchar Express in the Krishnapur area of Dharmanagar, triggering tension in the locality.
The incident occurred when train number 15663 Agartala–Silchar Express was passing through the area. On receiving the information, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Dharmanagar railway station rushed to the spot.
Train services were reportedly disrupted for some time following the incident.
The identity of the deceased could not be established immediately. Railway police have launched an investigation to determine how the youth came onto the railway tracks and the circumstances that led to his death.
Meanwhile, some passengers reportedly claimed that the youth had allegedly stolen a mobile phone from a passenger and jumped from the moving train while attempting to flee. However, GRP and RPF officials have not officially confirmed the claim.
Police are continuing their investigation to ascertain whether the incident was an accident or whether there were other circumstances involved. Efforts are also underway to identify the deceased.
