The Tripura Pradesh BJP has sought re-polling at the Warangbari SB School polling station in Gamaria village under Matabari block of Gomati district, alleging disruption and irregularities during the Village Committee elections held on Monday.
In a complaint submitted to the Tripura State Election Commission, the BJP alleged that the polling process at the booth was affected by the presence and activities of alleged Tipra Motha supporters. According to the party, the situation created an atmosphere that was not conducive to free and fair voting.
The BJP further alleged that some ordinary voters were prevented from entering the polling station and were consequently unable to cast their votes freely.
The party urged the State Election Commission to conduct an impartial inquiry into the allegations and verify the circumstances surrounding the polling. It also requested the Commission to take appropriate action under the relevant election rules and consider ordering a fresh poll at the affected polling station.
The BJP said that any disruption of the voting process could undermine public confidence in the electoral exercise and stressed the need to ensure that voters are able to exercise their franchise without fear or obstruction.
The complaint comes amid reports of clashes, violence and allegations of irregularities from parts of Gomati district during the Village Committee elections on September 28. The Election Commission is expected to examine the complaints and take a decision in accordance with the applicable rules.
