A 70-year-old woman from Sekerkote's Netaji Subhas Colony under Amtali Police Station has accused her younger son of repeatedly subjecting her to abuse and neglect.

The woman, Ranubala Sarkar, alleged that since the death of her husband, Bishwanath Sarkar, eight years ago, she has been facing physical and mental harassment from her younger son, Bachchu Sarkar, who works as an auto-rickshaw driver.

According to her complaint, the accused not only mistreats her but also takes ₹2,000 from her every month. She further claimed that she is often deprived of proper food and care.

The latest incident reportedly took place on Saturday when Bachchu allegedly attacked her with a chair, leaving her injured. Fearing for her safety, the elderly woman approached Amtali Police Station and submitted a written complaint seeking legal action.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday while heading to a hospital for treatment, Ranubala made an emotional appeal for protection, saying that she wants to live in peace and safety.

The incident has triggered concern among local residents, who have called on the police and the State Women's Commission to ensure a fair investigation and take appropriate action based on the findings.

Police have not yet released an official statement regarding the allegations.
