The Tripura State Committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Thursday submitted a deputation to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Law and Order, alleging repeated attacks on SFI activists and students at various educational institutions across the state.

In a memorandum submitted to the police authorities, the SFI alleged that a series of attacks on its members had taken place both inside and outside educational institutions over the past two weeks. The organisation claimed that incidents were reported at Charilam English Medium School, Bharat Chandra Nagar School, MBB College, Ramthakur College and Ramakrishna College, among other institutions.

According to the SFI, cases and FIRs have been registered at the concerned police stations following several of the incidents. The organisation further claimed that the names and addresses of the accused were mentioned in the complaints, but no arrests had been made so far.

The alleged delay in police action has created a sense of insecurity among students, the SFI said in its memorandum.

The student organisation also alleged that the democratic atmosphere in educational institutions was gradually being affected. It claimed that students were facing obstacles in expressing their views, organising peacefully and participating in democratic activities on campuses.

The SFI further alleged that the alleged silence and inaction of the police and law-and-order authorities despite repeated incidents of violence had aggravated the situation and raised serious concerns over student safety and the democratic environment in educational institutions.

The SFI Tripura State Committee urged the IGP, Law and Order, to take the matter seriously and direct the concerned police officials to initiate prompt and effective action in connection with the alleged incidents.
