Tripura to illuminate unreached areas under DA-JGUA projects by 2025: Power Minister

In a major push towards universal electrification, Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday announced a comprehensive plan to extend electricity to remote and unreached areas of the state.

The initiative, falling under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA) project of the Ministry of Tribal Welfare, Government of India, aims to provide electricity to families and public spaces that have remained in the dark.

Addressing the Tripura Legislative Assembly on the third day of the ongoing session, Minister Nath informed that the project would be implemented through the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) and the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA). The electrification drive will leverage solar microgrid systems under the PM-Janaman and PM-Divine projects, ensuring sustainable power solutions in remote areas.

The DA-JGUA project, approved by the State Distribution Reform Committee on February 10, 2025, is now awaiting Cabinet approval, following which implementation will commence. "Once the approval is received, work will begin immediately, and we are committed to completing it by December 2025," Minister Nath stated.

In addition to DA-JGUA, the government has set ambitious targets for the PM-Janaman and PM-Divine projects. "We aim to complete electrification under PM-Janaman by August 2025, and under PM-Divine by December 2025," he added.

Providing an update on ongoing efforts, the Power Minister, in a written response to MLA Nirmal Biswas, reported that 11,692 households have already been electrified under PM-Janaman through TSECL, while 372 households have received connections under PM-Divine through private traders. In total, 12,064 households have benefitted from these initiatives, marking a significant milestone in the state's electrification journey.
