Tripura records over 3.36 lakh unemployed: Minister

Tripura has 3,36,551 registered job seekers, according to Minister for Employment Services and Manpower Planning, Tinku Roy.

The revelation came in response to questions raised by Tipra Motha MLAs Ranjit Debbarma and CPIM MLA Sudip Sarkar in the Assembly on Monday.

As per the data, the total number of unemployed persons registered on the National Career Services (NCS) Portal stands at 3,35,551. Among them, 82,136 belong to Scheduled Tribes (ST), indicating the employment challenges faced by the indigenous communities in the state.

Highlighting the qualifications of the unemployed individuals, the minister informed that there are 245 PhD holders, 18,905 postgraduate degree holders, and 1,006 doctorate holders currently seeking jobs. This data underscores the growing demand for skilled employment opportunities in Tripura.

An issue of concern raised in the report is the number of over-aged job seekers who have surpassed the eligibility criteria for government employment.

A total of 2,383 individuals have crossed the permissible age limit, further compounding the employment crisis in the state.

The rising number of unemployed youth, despite their academic credentials, signals the urgent need for strategic employment policies, skill development programs, and industrial expansion to absorb the growing workforce in Tripura.
