Tripura likely to launch seaplane services, minister chairs meeting

In a move aimed at transforming Tripura’s tourism landscape, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting with a private airline company to explore the launch of seaplane services in the state.

The meeting, held at the Secretariat Conference Hall, focused on leveraging water-based connectivity to enhance access to the state's scenic tourist destinations.

Speaking to the media, Minister Chowdhury said, “We are taking special initiatives through the Transport and Tourism departments to introduce seaplane tourism — a first for Tripura.”

The proposed project envisions faster, more picturesque travel to popular aquatic destinations such as Narikel Kunja at Dumbur Lake, Chobimura, and other hidden gems across the state’s water bodies.

“Seaplane tourism is not only a fascinating concept but also an innovative step that can unlock a new chapter in Tripura’s tourism journey,” the minister said, highlighting the potential of the initiative to attract both domestic and international tourists.

He added that the government is working closely with the private aviation partner to finalize the technical, logistical, and regulatory frameworks needed to get the service off the ground. Detailed plans are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Positioned as a strategic leap toward establishing Tripura as a hub for eco and adventure tourism in Northeast India, the initiative is also expected to generate significant economic opportunities for local communities.
