In a significant push for agricultural expansion, Patanjali Foods is set to cultivate 10,000 hectares of oil palm in Tripura within the next two years. The initiative aims to enhance local production and create an integrated ecosystem to support farmers.
Ashok Kumar Singh, NER Head of Patanjali Foods, announced that the company has acquired 30 hectares of land in Tripura, which will serve as a hub for oil palm cultivation. The facility will include a processing mill, a nursery for oil palm saplings, a demo plantation, and a training center to equip farmers with practical knowledge.
"The climatic conditions in Tripura are ideal for oil palm cultivation. Within the next three months, we will start work on establishing this integrated center, which will streamline the entire cultivation process," Singh stated.
As part of its outreach, Patanjali conducted a workshop on oil palm cultivation in Tripura, where farmers from various districts under its jurisdiction participated. Officials discussed strategies for plantation development and addressed concerns related to large-scale oil palm farming in the state.
The workshop saw the presence of key government officials, including Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy, Agriculture Director Dr. Phani Bhusan Jamatia, and Horticulture Director Dipak Das. Representing Patanjali Foods were Subhash Bhattacharjee (NE Advisor) and Ayan Sarkar (Tripura State Head), who highlighted the company's commitment to expanding oil palm farming across the Northeast.
With this initiative, Patanjali aims to make Tripura a major hub for oil palm production, boosting the state's agricultural economy while providing sustainable livelihoods to farmers.
