Drone with camera found near Bangladesh border in Tripura, Police begin probe

Authorities have launched a probe after a drone fitted with a camera was discovered early Monday morning in a paddy field at Bolla Mukh, a village close to the Bangladesh border in the Belonia Sub-division of South Tripura district.

The incident has raised serious concerns about potential cross-border surveillance.

Tripura shares an 856-km-long international boundary with Bangladesh, making such sightings particularly sensitive.

According to Sadhan Majumder, the owner of the field, the drone was spotted around 7 AM by a local resident, Gopal Pal, who had gone to check on his crops.

“Gopal found the drone lying in the field and brought it to us. We informed the police immediately,” Majumder told reporters. He also mentioned that locals had noticed drones flying in the area over the past few days. “The border is very close. We strongly suspect it may have come from across the border.”

Following the report, personnel from Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) reached the spot and recovered the device.

A police official confirmed the development, saying, “We received information early this morning about a drone camera being found in a paddy field. Our team rushed to the location and took possession of the drone. Villagers claimed they had seen it flying in the area previously. Preliminary suspicion is that it may have originated from across the border.”

An official investigation is now underway to determine the origin and intended use of the drone. While authorities have yet to confirm if it was used for surveillance, they have not ruled out the possibility of cross-border intrusion.
