Four North East CMs hold meeting with Scindia on Investment Promotion

In a significant step towards transforming the economic landscape of the North East, the Chief Ministers of Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Sikkim convened for the inaugural meeting of the North Eastern Council’s (NEC) High-Level Task Force on Investment Promotion.

The meeting was chaired virtually by Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who has been appointed the Convener of the Task Force.

The Task Force, a key initiative by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), was formally constituted on March 15 following a decision taken during the 72nd NEC Plenary session held in Agartala in December 2024. The objective is to frame a comprehensive strategy for boosting investment across the North Eastern Region.

The core team of the Task Force includes Union Minister of DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

The Task Force has been entrusted with preparing a roadmap that can unlock the region’s economic potential and position it as a viable investment destination for both Indian and global players. It is expected to submit its report to the NEC within six months.

Taking to social media after the meeting, Dr. Saha shared, “As the Convener of the High-Level Task Force on Investment Promotion in the North Eastern Region constituted by the NEC, I chaired its first meeting virtually today... A detailed discussion was held, and we resolved to prepare a strategic roadmap to make the North Eastern Region a preferred investment destination for both domestic and international investors.”

The meeting marks a renewed commitment by the states and the Centre to work collaboratively in attracting investment, improving infrastructure, and creating job opportunities in one of India’s most culturally rich and ecologically sensitive regions.
