Tripura Police at the Airport Police Station in Agartala have detained eight Bangladeshi nationals over the past 24 hours in connection with an alleged illegal entry into the state and an attempt to travel onward from the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport.

According to officials, the operation began after intelligence inputs suggested that four Bangladeshi nationals would enter Tripura and try to fly out of the state via the airport. Acting on this tip-off, police set up surveillance on Saturday and initially detained four individuals.

During questioning, investigators received further leads, which led to the detention of four more individuals from the airport vicinity.

An officer from the Airport Police Station said the initial detentions were made based on specific intelligence, and subsequent interrogations helped trace the remaining suspects.

All eight detainees are men and are believed to have planned onward travel outside Tripura. The first four individuals have already been placed under police remand, while the newly detained four have been produced before a court, with police seeking their custody.

Authorities are now probing how the group entered Tripura, their intended destinations, and whether any larger network—such as human trafficking or illegal immigration—was involved. The investigation is ongoing.
