Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has called for a major organisational meeting of the party on August 17, seeking to strengthen its internal structure, improve transparency and restore greater public confidence ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections.

The meeting assumes significance as the party continues to maintain its demand that the Tiprasa Accord be implemented before it considers any political alliance or understanding for the Village Committee polls.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Pradyot said the meeting would bring together the party’s elected representatives and senior organisational leaders to take stock of the party’s functioning and discuss ways to make it more accountable to the people.

“All elected MDCs and MLAs, senior workers, senior YTF members and senior TISF members” will attend the meeting, he said. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3 pm in Agartala.

Pradyot said the party needed to examine its conduct, response and relationship with the public, stressing that holding an elected position should not create a sense of privilege.

“We are not VIPs. Our behaviour towards the public should remain the same as that of ordinary people,” he said.

The Tipra Motha founder also underlined the need for greater discipline and political integrity within the organisation. He said the party’s long-term credibility would depend on whether its leaders remained committed to the interests and rights of the people.

The internal organisational exercise comes at a politically significant time, with discussions over a possible alliance for the Village Committee elections continuing. Pradyot reiterated that Tipra Motha would not compromise on its core demand for the Tiprasa community.

He said his position was also shared by the party’s MLAs and MDCs, who, according to him, were more concerned about securing the rights of the people than pursuing personal interests.

“If something is given to my people, only then will the talks progress. Otherwise, there will be no progress,” Pradyot said.

The August 17 meeting is therefore expected to focus not only on organisational reforms but also on reinforcing the party’s political direction and ensuring that its leadership remains closely connected with its supporters and the wider Tiprasa community.
