A youth was arrested with 25.95 grams of heroin during a drug-control operation at Agartala Railway Station on Wednesday evening, police said.
The action was carried out by a team of Agartala Government Railway Police Station (GRPS), led by SI Biswajit Das, at around 5 pm on Platform No. 1. The police team reportedly intercepted a suspicious person and conducted a search.
The accused was identified as Gautam Pal, 30, son of Ajit Pal, a resident of Nagarpara, East Lumding, under Lumding Police Station in Hojai district of Assam.
During the search, police allegedly recovered 25.95 grams of heroin, concealed in three soap cases. A smartphone, Aadhaar card and a black shoulder bag were also recovered from his possession.
Police estimated the market value of the seized heroin at approximately Rs 2 lakh.
Pal was subsequently arrested and the seized narcotic substance was taken into custody. Agartala GRPS registered a case under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act, bearing case number 2026GRP072.
Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the heroin and ascertain whether the arrested youth was connected with a wider drug trafficking network.
