In a major success in its ongoing anti-narcotics drive, Tripura Police arrested a youth with a large quantity of heroin in North Tripura district late Thursday night.

Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector Tapan Pal of Kadamtala Police Station carried out a special operation in the Amtali area.

During the raid, the team apprehended Ruhel Ahmed, a resident of Kalagang, who was moving suspiciously near Amtali Bazar around 11 p.m.

Upon searching him, police recovered five containers filled with 234 grams of heroin along with a motorbike allegedly used for trafficking. Ahmed was immediately taken into custody and booked under case no. 49/25 of the NDPS Act.

During preliminary interrogation, Ahmed reportedly admitted to having links with several local and international drug syndicates. However, officials refrained from sharing further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

“We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. The crackdown on drug trafficking will continue, and more arrests from the network are expected soon,” an officer of Kadamtala Police Station said.
