Residents of Jalai village in Kailashahar, Unakoti District, took to the streets on Tuesday to protest the prolonged lack of proper drinking water supply.

According to villagers, repeated requests to the local administration have gone unheeded, forcing over a hundred residents to stage a road blockade. The protest caused significant disruption, leaving vehicles stranded for hours and commuters struggling to continue their journeys.

Villagers alleged that the administration has failed to meet even the basic requirement of drinking water, prompting fears of a larger movement if the issue is not addressed promptly.

“We have been demanding adequate drinking water for a long time, but nothing has been done. If the situation does not improve, the agitation will escalate,” said one of the protesters.

Local authorities have yet to comment on the villagers’ demands.
