In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police on Monday arrested two women in possession of heroin valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh in Agartala, West District Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar informed.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Kumar said that acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by personnel from the East Agartala Police Station in the Bankumari area of the city, leading to the detention of the two suspects.
“During the search, nine containers of heroin weighing 97 grams were recovered.
The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh in the black market,” the SP said.
The arrested women have been identified as Rosna Begum (35) and Kolsom Begum (24), both residents of Sepahijala district.
“They had arrived in Agartala from Silchar, Assam. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them. They will be produced before the court, and we will seek police remand for further investigation,” Dr. Kumar added.
