Acting on confidential information, Tripura Police from Khowai Police Station under Khowai District seized 121 kilograms of dried ganja from a vehicle during a search operation on Friday afternoon and arrested two persons.

According to police sources, a tip-off was received that a vehicle was being used to smuggle contraband from Kamalpur to Agartala. Based on the information, a team led by Sub-Inspector Francis and Officer-in-Charge Krishnadhan Sarkar launched a search operation in the Barbil area along National Highway 208 under Khowai district.

During the operation, police intercepted a white Maruti Swift Dzire bearing registration number TR01 L 3923. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 121 kg of dried ganja packed in several packets.

The driver of the vehicle and his accomplice were immediately detained. The accused have been identified as Jayanta Sarkar and Jenuri Rudra Pal, both residents of the Amtali area in Agartala under West District.

Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station Krishnadhan Sarkar stated that the estimated market value of the seized ganja is between Rs 10 lakh.

A case has been registered against the two accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and they have been formally arrested. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband.
