Two women from Bihar were apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday at Agartala Railway Station while allegedly attempting to smuggle over 22 kg of ganja to Punjab.

In a joint operation, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized a total of 22.405 kg of dry cannabis, neatly packed in six packets and concealed inside two pit bags and a trolley bag.

Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, said the arrested women — Manju Devi (45) of Lakshmisharai district and Rachana Devi (36) of Bhagalpur district — had reportedly used trains from Agartala on multiple occasions to transport narcotics.

“Preliminary investigation suggests the contraband was destined for Punjab, where it could fetch nearly ₹4.5 lakh in the black market,” Das said.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP police station. Further investigation is underway.
