In a late-night joint operation, Tripura Police and the 81 Battalion BSF seized narcotics valued at around Rs 13 lakh and arrested two suspected drug peddlers in Sepahijala district.
Acting on a tip-off, officials from Sonamura Police Station raided a residence in UNC Nagar, Fakiradula, under Sonamura PS limits, and recovered 100 bottles of Escuf syrup packed in two white bags along with 600 grams of Yaba tablets concealed in a bundle.
The accused, identified as Idris Mia (60) and Monura Khatun (56), were taken into custody. During preliminary interrogation, the duo confessed that the contraband was meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
Confirming the development, Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, said a case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and the accused will be produced before the court seeking police remand.
Police sources added that further arrests in the case cannot be ruled out, as investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and other members involved in the cross-border smuggling network.
