In a significant blow to Pakistan-backed terror operations, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Jalandhar has dismantled a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module allegedly directed by UK-based handlers. Two operatives, identified as Gurjinder Singh and Diwan Singh, were arrested with 2.5 kg of IED/RDX and a remote control device, officials confirmed on Thursday.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the module was being run by Nishan Jaurian and Adesh Jamarai under instructions from BKI mastermind Harwinder Singh Rinda, currently based abroad. The explosive device was reportedly meant for a planned targeted attack.

An FIR has been registered in Amritsar under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Substances Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended targets.

The arrest follows the DGP’s recent directive to strengthen security across Punjab ahead of the festive season. In a virtual meeting held on September 30, Yadav instructed all senior police officers — including Station House Officers (SHOs) — to take strict action against gangsters, drug traffickers, and anti-social networks.

“Every officer, from constables to SSPs, will be held accountable for their performance. No negligence will be tolerated,” DGP Yadav emphasized, adding that officers have been given a “free hand” to act firmly against criminal elements.

He further directed that forensic analysis of seized mobile phones be prioritized to uncover wider connections and enable more arrests. Yadav reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, warning that strict disciplinary and legal action would be taken against any officer found involved in wrongdoing.
